YouTuber Chooses Abortion After Down Syndrome Diagnosis

Jesse and Ashley Ridgway
A popular 19th century myth holds that a frog placed in a pot of tepid water will sit complacently as the temperature rises, unaware of the danger until it's too late, ultimately boiling to death. Though the myth may not be true for frogs, the metaphor often seems true for humans. Maybe that’s how we ended up in a society that performs soft eugenics in the womb.
Popular YouTube influencers Jesse and Ashley Ridgway, known as the “McJuggerNuggets,” aborted their baby on June 3, 2026 after receiving test results that indicated the possibility of Down syndrome.
In March, the Ridgways released footage from their ultrasound, apparently acknowledging that the fetus was a baby.
In May, Jesse Ridgway had his brother record what was supposed to be the gender reveal for the baby but instead became Ashley Ridgway’s first time hearing the news that the baby might have Down syndrome.
A few weeks later, the Ridgways received additional test results showing a higher probability of Down syndrome. Instead of realizing their baby would be just as much a blessing if he had Down syndrome, the Ridgways chose to abort their child.
Jesse Ridgway published the following post on June 3:

“I bought baby clothes because I was so sure,” Ashley Ridgway said in the video where she and her husband revealed the test results. The real tragedy? There was nothing preventing Ashley Ridgway from keeping that baby and using those baby clothes except her own assumption that the baby’s life was not worth living.
In the U.S., 67% of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb are aborted. In the United Kingdom, 90% of Down babies are aborted, and in Iceland, 100%.
Why? As Dr. JoLyn Seitz writes for Sandford Health, “Research … shows that parents raising a child with Down syndrome experience joy and satisfaction. Nearly 4 in 5 parents of children with Down syndrome report a more positive outlook on life as a result, according to a study from the American Journal of Medical Genetics. And 94 percent of siblings said they are proud of their brothers and sisters with Down syndrome.”
What made this situation unique is that Jesse Ridgway chose to publicize it.
Somehow, we have reached the point where human worth is determined based on “autonomy, productivity, and perceived quality of life,” as Dr. David Closson writes, instead of on basic human dignity, regardless of life circumstances. If the dystopic picture of Down syndrome in some people’s minds doesn’t actually exist, why are Down babies still dying?
Down syndrome kids are not burdens. They do not automatically live miserable lives. Yet we have decided that they are not worth defending, and now we eliminate them through informal eugenics.
Abortion activists used to claim it was about removing a “clump of cells.” But now the Ridgways can post about their fetus, call it a baby, and still abort it at the first sign of trouble. They knew it was a baby. This wasn’t about removing a “growth.” They knew this was a human being, and knowing that, they still chose death. This is the real tragedy – that our society has fallen so far that parents can kill defenseless, “defective” children in the womb and their actions be called heroic, not heinous. This is not an issue of women’s rights. This is an issue of morality.
The pot is boiling. And if we don’t shift course, we may find ourselves boiled too.
